As you can see the Brazilian blackest Metal massacre is fuckin' back with a brand new album called "Sign Of Doom"! In my point of view that was the perfect occasion to know more things about this incredible South American combo, so I contacted the black soul behind Grave Desecrator, Necrogoat, and look what I got!
Arcana Noctis: Hello Necrogoat! How are you and how are the things going on for your band Grave Desecrator now that the very first album is finally out on Ketzer Records from Germany?
Necrogoat: The things are in two different ways. In Europe or outside Brazil, we have been received with most very good response. Most of the reviews are great and a good selling for the label as well. But inside our own country, nothing happens, we played very few gigs, and most labels here don't give a fuck about us. Fucking shit as ever!!
Arcana Noctis: Can you introduce your band history to our readers by telling us the most important steps of Grave Desecrator?
Necrogoat: We started in 1998 with me (former guitarist), F. Mordor as vocalist and few time later, Butcherazor (former bassist) was called up to join the sect. We had too many problems to find a drummer till we record our debut demo in 2001 with the help of a session. In 2003 we recorded the 7" "Cult Of Warfare And Darkness" with Adremeleck (former Nocturnal Worshipper, Apocalyptic Raids...) as drummer. Ketzer Records from Germania was the responsible to this 7" and by our debut CD, "Sign Of Doom", released late 2008. F. Mordor was fired out few time before the recording of this CD, and I passed to bass lines, Butcherazor passed to guitars and voices, and Black Sin and Damnation came along to second guitar. The rest goes on...
Arcana Noctis: I would like to ask you about that problem with the drummers in the beginning of your career; it really was so bad in the beginning to find someone to fit with your ideas? Or it was just a problem of attitude?
Necrogoat: There were no free drummers into our kind of sound and attitude in our area that time. Most were sissy motherfuckers trying to be into some new fashioned band. We had to ask the help of L. Pagani (former Mysteriis) for the drum works in our demo, as we did record the shit at his studio. We still are with Adrameleck, but we do not know for how long...
Arcana Noctis: The very first record was printed in 2001 and you named it "Demo 01" and it was released under the banner of your label called Swords And Leather. Can you tell us more about this subject?
Necrogoat: Yeah, not too much to tell. I used to have a tape label with a friend (Swords And Leather, a nod to the Absu song) and then that was our first stuff. We wanted to press 500 copies, but the graphic pressed more than one thousand. So we spread this shit around the world, and some labels got interested. One of them, Ketzer Records. And then the story talks for itself. We stopped the label due our lack of free time, and the shitty Brazilian mail service, expensive as hell and with a bad service...
Arcana Noctis: How did you get to manage the promo activity while your live performance was practically inexistent?
Necrogoat: We ever wanted to play more alive, but due the shitty problem with drummers, it could not happen. So, we kept the band alive with divulgation and composing the best we can.
Arcana Noctis: In 2003 Ketzer Records got in touch with you asking you if you want to cooperate with them in the future, is that right? What it happened exactly?
Necrogoat: We sent off lots of copies of our demo outside. Alex from Ketzer was interested to make a trade with us and it did happen. He liked the stuff and also it sold very fast by his hands. A deal was forged, but we wanted a 7" first before a CD. The things with us were too slow, due all our problems above mentioned. But it finally came true on 2003 with the blood dropped 7" "Cult Of Warfare And Darkness".
Arcana Noctis: Soon after that you asked Adrameleck drums to join you to record this artifact. Why did you choose and what do you think about him now that he is a stable member of the band?
Necrogoat: Well, we didn't had any options. And we met him and thought he's a cool guy and really into Metal at all. You know, he's a veteran in Rio's Metal scene. He plays Metal since 1986 and played at several acts like Biblia Negra, Apocalyptic Raids, Sodomizer, Nocturnal Worshipper, and now he runs his own band Hellkommander alongside mates from Sodomizer, Farscape etc. Totally into old Death Metal!! We're still with him, but he's a guy with 43 years old. He's not too crazy as we are, and sometimes the things are a bit hard with him...
Arcana Noctis: You called the new material "Cult Of Warfare And Darkness". Do you want to tell us a few words about it? Also do not forget to mention about the Brazilian version made by Hellspike Records that features a few extra songs if I'm not wrong!
Necrogoat: Well, "Cult Of Warfare And Darkness" was our 7" black vinyl released in 2003 by Ketzer Records and in tape version by Hellspike Records in 2004. Yeah, it had 2 rehearsal tracks on the tape as bonus. Both versions are sold out!!!
Arcana Noctis: After that you got into some personal problems and you stoped bands activity for a while. What happened exactly?
Necrogoat: Adrameleck had to stop for a while to solve some personal probs. Me too. All is shit in our way... A pain in the ass!!!
Arcana Noctis: You have returned in 2006 and you started to play new songs for a new material and you asked Adrameleck to join you as a permanent member of Grave Desecrator. I hope everything is fuckin' perfect for you right now?!
Necrogoat: Things are OK. We played a few gigs. They were OK. But we have no support in our own country and it sucks us all!! Adrameleck isn't that "crazy" guy like me and the other guys in Grave Desecrator are. We drink, smoke etc. a lot, and he's more calm. It makes the things a bit harder for us. But he did a very good job with us till now. And he's also a very cool friend.
Arcana Noctis: A new record is out now and its name is "Sign Of Doom". Can you introduce this full length to our readers? Give us some technical details about it and don't forget to mention about the working session of Andy Classen well known in the whole Death Metal area. What do you think about him now that he is just a producer and sound engineer?
Necrogoat: "Sign Of Doom" is an infamous malevolence of old school Black/Death Metal with the long forgotten typical "Brazilian" touch! Yeah, that like the old masters Sarcofago, Sepultura, Vulcano, Cova, Dorsal Atlântica, Mystifier etc. of course, mixed with traditional Black Metal and old Death Metal bastards like Necrovore, Death, Slayer, Master etc. But we like the things well played and well recorded. We had a budget for it, not too much, but it helped us a lot to record a decent stuff. Alex from Ketzer was interested to have our shits mastered by Andy, so we have nothing to complain about it. We were really worried if he could clean up our stuff, but he did a great job. It's a bit strange to have a band like us working with Andy, as he's a very well known professional and deserves it. And we don't like most bands he works with, but it's a matter of taste only. He did everything we asked him on the sounds.
Arcana Noctis: Tell us a few words about the lyrical concept of this album and tell us also if you are satisfied with the outcome! If I'm not wrong you had some problems with the artwork because 2 different versions were refused because of the offensive message. What is all about?
Necrogoat: Yeah, hahaha! That was true but sincerely, our cover artwork and concept doesn't have nothing more than the average extreme bands normally do. But I think Alex choose 2 pressing plants ruled by some devoted Christians. I even got the letter and I'm sending you annexed. Our lyrics deals with our views about the darkness that surround us, carnal and lustfull aspects. And other things are just a hail to old Satanic traditions of Metal at all. But me and Butcherazor are more serious in our dark way of life. Adrameleck is not too much deep into this point. And Black Sin is more a musician and friend than a guy into these aspects. I don't consider myself as an orthodox Satanist, but I can't deny it's a great source of creativity and strength in my life. As aesthetically as in a more philosophical way.
Arcana Noctis: Now that the new opus is out, are you happy with the feedback received? Did you toured to promote the new bastard?
Necrogoat: The feedback has been great most outside Brazil, as the label is from Germany. Many cool reviews, inties etc. Of course, there're some not so good reviews, but they are very few, luckily. No. We live in a country where we have a huge Metal scene, but totally unprofessional on it, so we don't have any support for touring here, and sincerely, most bands don't have it either. Brazil sucks for it. We'll try to gig South America and Europe for 2010.
Arcana Noctis: Soon after that Mordor got into some personal problems with the other members and it was fired. What happened and how did you get to manage the situation, because I know that there are some transformations in the actual line-up of your band? Also tell us something about the new second guitarist, how did you get it and tell us if you are satisfied with this choice?
Necrogoat: F. Mordor was the guy that formed Grave Desecrator with me. Butcherazor came few weeks later (they're cousins). But Mordor didn't do many things for us, just telling a lot of shit... We were really tired of all this shit and we told him he was out. The things weren't that nice, but I must say we still like him, although he thinks the contrary. But how can we have a vocalist who didn't know to sing one single track without read the lyrics impressed in a paper in front of him? I don't talk to him since the time he was out. And by the way I tried to phone him 2 days ago, but he was sleeping and didn't return my call... So, fuck off... Butcherazor has an impressive voice and he has been the main composer since the beginning. Nothing more just to have him as guitarist and vocalist, as I preferred to take the bass lines, as it's more simple for me. I work a lot etc. few time to get guitar lines etc. Black Sin and Damnation is a cool friend we thought he could join us. He used to play at Heavy Metal bands, and he has a good technique.
Arcana Noctis: What do you have in your mind for the future of your band? Also, can you tell us what is the actual position of Grave Desecrator in the Brazilian extreme Metal scene?
Necrogoat: I can't foresee the future. We just plan to have more releases, play more alive, gig outside, fuck some chicks, drink more, smoke more marijuana etc. But we don't like to make plans... Most don't happen!! I don't know the position of Grave Desecrator in Brazilian scene. I know there're many guys and girls who support us a lot. That's it. Brazilians seems to choose to live under the influences of foreigner fashions every time, so I really don't care very much about this country on relation to musical matters and its shits.
Arcana Noctis: Well man it seems that we are at the end of this interview. Thanks a lot and good luck to you. Do you have something to add in the end for our readers?
Necrogoat: I thank you a lot for your interest on us. Sincere greetings from the Brazilian Blackest Metal Massacre!! For CD, merchandise etc. in Europe, please get in touch to
Ketzer Records. Vinyl version get in touch to
Blood Harvest Records. See you all in hell!!!
